The Overton Farm course in South Lanarkshire hosts the Fife meeting for the first time on Saturday 23rd April, with 48 entries received for a six race card starting at 2.00pm.

The NPPA Conditions Race promises to be a competitive affair with six of the 8 entries rated between 91 and 95. Mr Witmore scored in good style under Tara Stockwell at Sheriff Hutton last April on a sound surface and should go close here on his return from a ten week break. The locally trained duo, Wind Of Hope and Istimraar finished 3rd and 5th respectively behind the in-form Ballydonagh Boy at Corbridge on Easter Monday. Tony Hogarth's evergreen 17-year-old gelding, Molten Brown shaped well on his reappearance at Friars Haugh in January when twelve lengths 4th to Cooking Fat and will appreciate a return to good ground. Dream Over has won 3 of her 8 starts between the flags and also enters calculations on her return from a thirteen week break after finishing 4th to My Liege at Friars Haugh last time out.

Ardbruce is the one to beat in the Restricted Race. He made all the running under Abby Robertson when getting off the mark in a fast time over course and distance last month and might take some pegging back if similar tactics are employed. The Kitchenmecanic and Calibrator finished 2nd (beaten 20 lengths) and 4th (beaten 35 lengths) respectively behind Ballydonagh Boy at Tranwell three weeks ago. Buccleuch Mares Maiden winner, Feel The Breeze had quite a hard race when 3rd to the useful Macavity at Corbridge on Easter Monday, while the locally trained Astute Boy produced his best form of the campaign at Overton four weeks ago when seven lengths 3rd to Garbanzo in this grade.

The 9 entries for the 2m4f Conditions Race include the aforementioned Astute Boy, Mr Witmore and Istimraar. So Satisfied is top rated and this contest represents a significant drop in class after finishing seven lengths 3rd to the useful Thyne For Gold in the Lanark & Renfrew Ladies Open last time out. Gripper is trained at Overton by Wassels Young and should be suited by the shorter trip after finishing sixteen lengths 3rd to Gold Time in the 3m Lanark & Renfrew Men's Open last month.

The feature event on the card is the £1,000 Ineos Grenadier Mixed Open Race with £500 to the winner. Proven stayer, Point The Way is head-and-shoulders above the other 10 entries on ratings and recent form. He has won his last 3 Pointing starts, including the prestigious 4m1f Grimthorpe Gold Cup, and ended last season on a high with hunters' chase victories at Perth and Kelso. Frankies Fire, who scored at Hexham and Friars Haugh earlier this term, is at her best on a sound surface and can be excused her last run in the Buccleuch Cup Maiden Hunters' Chase at Kelso on April 4 where she pulled up lame. Ballydonagh Boy is still on the upgrade and can make his mark in this company after winning 4 of his last 6 starts with plenty in hand. Cooking Fat scored here by a wide margin in a fast time four weeks ago and is expected to go well again, while Royal Chant also merits consideration on his favoured sound surface.

All 6 horses listed for the PPORA Club Members Conditions Race are double-entered on the card, including the aforementioned So Satisfied, Wind Of Hope and The Kitchenmecanic. Nine Altars has been placed in 10 of 14 outings since his last win at Mosshouses in May 2018 and this represents a less demanding test than some he has faced recently, while the veteran Azure Fly finished fourteen lengths 2nd to Cooking Fat in the Lanark & Renfrew equivalent last month.

There are 8 entries for the concluding 2m4f Maiden Race and a case can be made for most of them. Mourne Supreme has joined Kate Leckenby's yard since finishing twelve lengths 3rd in a Tyrella Maiden on March 12, his second run in six days. Can We Keep Him might well have won on debut at Tranwell had he not run out through the wing at the second last fence when disputing the lead. The lightly raced Watch Law is open to plenty of improvement having travelled well for a long way over a longer trip at Alnwick in December. Teds Charley Roe has been placed twice this season on a sound surface, while the shorter trip will suit the locally trained Frenchpeps who has twice finished runner-up this season under Ross Wilson.

The main action is preceded by 2 pony races which have both attracted 5 entries.
