The South Shropshire takes place at Eyton-on-Severn on Bank Holiday Monday. There has been a good entry of 86 for the seven races, commencing at 1.00. The forecast for the week is for mostly dry weather, but the organisers will be watering to provide good racing ground on the day.

The opening Maiden is over two-and-a-half miles for four- and five-year-olds, where there are sixteen entries. Five of them have never raced and with no strong form trend from those that have, it's probably best to take a watching brief for horses with future potential.

The following race is a Mixed Open over the same distance and the best of the twelve runners are Complete Sizing, Duke Arcadio, Hazaar, Ryan's Fancy and Tidal Flow. Ryan's Fancy won a three-runner Ladies at Easingwold last Sunday and would have a chance if turning out again. Duke Arcadio has been consistent throughout the season and should be competitive. Tidal Flow was a good chaser trained by Philip Hobbs and is new to pointing. The ex-Tom Lacey trained chaser Hazaar has been running over this trip winning well at Tabley but was last of three finishers to the veteran Green Winter at Paxford on Easter Monday. The ex-Jim Dreaper trained Complete Sizing had good point and hunter chase form in Ireland, before joining Phil Rowley's yard. He won a Mixed Open at Bangor and was last to finish in the Aintree Foxhunters. In an open race Compete Sizing is taken to prevail.

The Conditions Level 3 is for horses confined to the West Mercia area. The pick of the eleven entries are Ballymac Boy and Duke Arcadio. The veteran thirteen-year-old Duke Arcadio is very consistent and will have an excellent chance. Ballymac Boy has won his last two races including over this course a fortnight ago. He is at the peak of his form and should be good enough to win again.

Three horses stand out in the PPORA Club Members for Novice Riders, where there are thirteen entries. They are Spectacular Rival, Ellipsism and Stop the World. Spectacular Rival won a Maiden at Larkhill and followed up with a convincing win in an Intermediate at the meeting here on Easter Monday. Ellipsism has won two similar races and is very consistent. Stop the World showed great promise in his last race at Tabley when he just failed to catch Duke Arcadio by half-a-length. His young sixteen-year-old rider is William Maggs who along with his twin Charlie works for Donald McCain's powerful stable. Stop the World is the selection here.

The pick of the nine runners in the Restricted are Black Aphrodisiac, Flying Colum, Hung Jury and My Friend Freddie. My Friend Freddie won a Members at Bitterley. Flying Colum beat Hung Jury convincingly at Maisemore Park and the latter subsequently won a Maiden at Andoversford. Black Aphrodisiac won her Maiden well at Askham Bryan. In an open contest, Flying Colum may just have the better of Black Aphrodisiac.

The Maiden for six-year-olds and upwards has attracted thirteen entries. The main ones to focus on are College Field, Lennox Again, Macfin and Lift Me Up. Lift Me Up and College Field were second and third in a Larkhill Maiden. Lennox Again tried to make all in a Sandon Maiden and was collared close home. The Tom Lacey owned and trained Macfin had good, placed hurdle and chase form for Nigel Twiston-Davies in the past and should be good enough to win his first point.

There is a decent entry of twelve in the concluding Members for Tanatside, North and South Shropshire qualified horses. However, most of them are also entered in other races, so it's hard to predict which will declare here. The best three in the race look to be Reiker's Island, Willewonga and Spectacular Rival. Spectacular River has been covered earlier and will be competitive. Reiker's Island looked good in winning an early-season Hunter Chase at Warwick, then disappointed in a Mixed Open at Bangor, and was a well-beaten seventh in the Aintree Foxhunters. Joe O'Shea trains Willewonga who was runner-up in three competitive races and then won his last two at Tabley and at Sandon. Willewonga is in top form and may be good enough.
